- Nauseda stated about the alleged violation of the Lithuanian border by Russian aircraft
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has claimed an alleged violation of the country's airspace by Russian military aircraft. He published a corresponding statement on October 23 on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"This evening, Russian military aircraft [allegedly] violated Lithuanian airspace," the statement said.
The Lithuanian Head of State also stressed the importance of strengthening European air defense. In connection with the alleged violation, representatives of the Russian Embassy will be summoned to express a note of protest.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on October 6 that many European politicians seek to groundlessly blame Russia for everything, including the situation with drones on the territories of these states.
Prior to that, on October 5, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reported on drones in German airspace. It was clarified that they were not armed and were carrying out reconnaissance missions. According to Merz, it was "an attempt at espionage and intimidation of the population." The Chancellor also called drone flights a serious threat to the country's security, regardless of their origin.
