The victory of Russian Angelina Melnikova, who became a two-time world champion in the individual all-around in gymnastics at the World Championships in Jakarta, is a well-deserved award. This was announced on October 23 by the President of the Russian Gymnastics Federation, Vice-President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Vasily Titov.

"Well-deserved reward! Angelina is a great fellow. <...> Not without mistakes, but she pulled herself together and did it," he said in an interview with the newspaper Sport-Express.

According to Titov, the gymnast had a difficult performance in Paris, and she "made all the necessary conclusions." The President of the Federation added that the level of training of athletes in Russia is still maintained, "no matter what."

Titov stressed that the ability of Russian athletes to maintain their level of training is their merit.

"They train and achieve results," he concluded.

In the women's team, the bid for the world championship in Jakarta is obvious, but the men have personnel problems.

Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian Olympic Committee, in turn, congratulated Melnikova on her victory, noting that this achievement is of particular importance for Russian gymnastics. He called the gymnast's performance intriguing and added that the athlete showed a champion character, managing to pull herself together after a mistake on the balance beam and performing brilliantly in floor exercises.
