Russian commentator Dmitry Guberniev, in an interview with Sport-Express on October 23, called Angelina Melnikova's victory in the all-around at the World Gymnastics Championships, which is being held in Jakarta (Indonesia), one of the most important in the last decade.

"Only the best of the best, gods among gods, are capable of absolute world championship. I admire Angelina. This is a huge victory for Russian sports, perhaps one of the most important in the last decade," Guberniev said.

According to him, Melnikova, who became a world champion years after her suspension, has inscribed herself in the ranks of brilliant gymnasts.

Two-time Olympic champion Svetlana Khorkina, in turn, called Melnikova's achievement an incentive for all Russian athletes and noted the gymnast's experience.

"She was very well prepared for the tournament. Angelina became a two-time absolute world champion. She's caught up with Larisa Latynina, but she hasn't caught up with me yet, and I wish her that with all my heart. Keep it up!" added Khorkina.

Earlier that day, Melnikova became a two-time world champion in the individual all-around in gymnastics. The athlete took first place at the World Championships in Jakarta, scoring 55.066 points in the sum of four exercises. She won a medal at the World Gymnastics Championships for the first time since 2021.

Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian Olympic Committee, also congratulated Melnikova. He called the gymnast's performance intriguing and noted that Melnikova showed a champion character, managing to pull herself together after a mistake on the balance beam and performing brilliantly in floor exercises.
