The doctor gave advice on the correct introduction of complementary foods
Allergist Alyona Bondarenko told how to introduce complementary foods into the children's diet.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, October 23, the specialist noted that the key to successful complementary feeding is its proper start at the age of four to six months, observing the principles of gradualness, observation and the correct sequence of product administration.
According to her, it is better to start complementary foods with vegetables rather than fruits, as this helps to form healthy eating habits from an early age. She explained that vegetables are an ideal start: food interest is formed, and the child eats them more readily in the future.
Bondarenko advises starting with heat—treated mild-tasting vegetables such as zucchini, broccoli and cauliflower, and after adaptation gradually add potatoes, pumpkin and only then fruits such as apple, pear and banana.
The allergist also noted that from 4-6 to 10 months it is important to introduce as many different foods as possible in order to form a child's food tolerance and reduce the risk of allergic reactions in the future.
On October 21, doctors at the Childhood Clinic revealed a way to avoid food allergies in children at the beginning of complementary feeding. It is recommended to introduce new products one at a time, with an interval of three to five days. It is worth starting with half or one teaspoon and gradually increasing the portion if there are no rashes, itching, stool problems or anxiety in the child, notes 360.ru .
On October 20, nutritionist Marina Makisha, in an interview with the National Health Service, said that children should not be given products with sugar content until they are three years old, since then they will refuse "normal" food.
In February, pediatrician Elizaveta Dautova in an interview with Gazeta.Ru" said that if a child shows interest in food, sits confidently, holding his head and neck straight, and tries to take food from the spoon himself, this indicates his readiness to introduce complementary foods. The specialist advises starting complementary foods with dairy-free porridges, vegetable purees and fruits. Products with added sugar should not be given to children under one year of age. Eggs, meat and lean fish are introduced gradually after the main products. It is not recommended to offer honey, whole milk, mushrooms, sauces, sugary drinks, caffeine, canned food, smoked, pickled and fried foods for up to a year.
