On October 23, Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian Olympic Committee, congratulated gymnast Angelina Melnikova on her victory in the individual all-around at the World Championships in Jakarta, noting that this achievement is of particular importance for national gymnastics.

"Congratulations to Angelina Melnikova on winning the all-around at the World Gymnastics Championships in Indonesia. This is an important achievement for the Russian Gymnastics Federation and a great joy for all fans of this sport in our country," Sport-Express quotes him as saying.

The minister called the gymnast's performance intriguing. He noted that Melnikova showed a champion character, managing to pull herself together after a mistake on the balance beam and performing brilliantly in floor exercises.

Degtyarev stressed that the 25-year-old gymnast had confirmed her status as a leader in gymnastics, repeating her success in 2021.

Earlier that day, Melnikova became a two-time world champion in the individual all-around in gymnastics. The athlete took first place at the World Championships in Jakarta, scoring 55.066 points in the sum of four exercises. She won a medal at the World Gymnastics Championships for the first time since 2021.
