On October 23, the Congress of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) re-elected Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu to the post of chairman of the RGS.

Shoigu was elected to a new term as head of the Russian Geographical Society unanimously. His candidacy was also supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
