The ROC will require the IOC to punish Poland for not allowing Russian swimmers
The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) will send an official note to the International Olympic Committee demanding that Poland be sanctioned for not allowing Russian swimmers to participate in the European Short Course Championships. This was announced on October 23 by the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and the head of the ROC Mikhail Degtyarev.
Earlier, the Russian Aquatics Federation announced that domestic athletes would not be able to participate in competitions in Lublin, Poland, for political reasons.
"This is a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of the Olympic Charter. We will ask for measures similar to those applied to Indonesia to be taken against Poland," TASS quoted Degtyarev as saying.
As the head of the ROC noted, the IOC promptly imposed sanctions against Indonesia after refusing to issue visas to Israeli gymnasts, but in the case of Poland, there was not even a formal condemnation. Degtyarev described this situation as a manifestation of double standards.
Earlier, on October 22, the IOC proposed to deprive Indonesia of the right to host international tournaments. The IOC expressed deep concern over the non-issuance of visas by Indonesia to athletes from Israel to participate in the World Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, which takes place from October 19 to 25.
