An IT expert spoke about a scheme that has become popular with scammers
Scammers have started using the birthday flower delivery scheme en masse. This was stated by the manager of the Information Security Services department at Kontur.Aegis" Ekaterina Rudaya reported on Thursday, October 23.
According to her, such calls used to be isolated, but the situation has changed. Scammers use well—thought-out scenarios built according to the laws of marketing: they use several communication channels, provide realistic details - delivery time, store name, track number, and refer to an emotional reason.
"And closer to the appointed time, the operator calls back: he calls the nearest real flower shop, congratulates you on your birthday, clarifies the details and casually asks for your passport number, ostensibly to transfer to the courier. When asked who gave it, he can answer that it is "a surprise from a friend or girlfriend," the expert said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
Rudaya stressed that the main goal is data collection. The address, passport, phone number, and sometimes the SMS code can be used to issue microloans, register SIM cards, verify on marketplaces, or sell in databases.
The IT expert noted that no delivery service has the right to request passport data by phone. If the call seems suspicious, she advised you to call the store back using the number from the official website and clarify the information. The expert also recommended to establish a ban on remote loans in microfinance organizations.
On October 8, Khamovnikov police detained a young man after defrauding the daughter of a 55-year-old Muscovite. The minor received a call allegedly from a flower delivery service, the Moscow City News agency reports.
On September 30, the head of the State Duma Committee for the Development of Civil Society, Yana Lantratova (Fair Russia — For Truth), said that a new fraud scheme had appeared in Russia, which victims become people on their birthday. 360.ru .
