- The Russian permanent Mission to the EU called the anti-Russian sanctions a "Sisyphean labor"
The adoption by the European Union (EU) of the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions is a "Sisyphean labor" that is not capable of harming Russia. This was announced on October 23 at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the EU and Euratom.
"The European Union stubbornly continues to engage in "Sisyphean labor," vainly trying to inflict damage to the economy and the population of our country with its endless "sanctions," the representative office said in a statement on its website.
At the same time, it is noted that the futility of these measures has become obvious to everyone except the leadership of the European structures and the governments of most EU member states. The Russian representative office clarified that restrictive measures taken by unfriendly countries "are not capable of bringing down the Russian economy."
The report also says that sanctions against Russia are harming the EU countries themselves, becoming a "double-edged instrument of economic pressure." In addition, the permanent mission assured that the restrictive measures of the EU will not remain without a response from Russia.
Earlier in the day, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced that the EU had adopted the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. She noted that the restrictions are aimed, in particular, at Russian banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, organizations in India and China. At the same time, the European Union will restrict the movement of Russian diplomats.
