In 2026, MTS will create a high-precision geo-positioning infrastructure for Yandex to control autonomous vehicles on three federal highways M4 "Don", M-11 "Neva" and M12 "Vostok" with a total length of 4 thousand km, in all Russian cities with millions and 20 key logistics centers. This was reported by the MTS press service.

The project uses GNSS RTK (Global Navigation Satellite System, Real Time Kinematic) technology. As part of the project, it is also planned to provide full coverage of these territories with high—speed LTE mobile communications, and in the future - 5G. The first stage of the positioning system has already been launched on the M-11 highway and in a number of other locations, MTS reported.

"In just four months, MTS has deployed the first stage of the RTK high-precision positioning system, and next year it will cover 4,000 km of three federal highways, all million-plus cities and 20 logistics hubs with this service. At the same time, MTS, as a telecom operator, will provide a comprehensive solution - it will generate accurate geodetic corrections and provide mobile data transmission. Our goal is to provide a reliable infrastructure framework for the accurate and safe movement of all types of autonomous Yandex vehicles," said Viktor Belov, Vice President of Telecommunications Infrastructure at MTS.

"Creating a reliable digital infrastructure is an important step towards a future in which autonomous technologies can predictably operate anywhere in the country. MTS is creating the foundation for such a future, and we at Yandex are developing technologies that make this transport smart and self-sufficient. Together, we are bringing closer the moment when autonomous cars will become a familiar part of life," said Arslan Urtashev, Head of Yandex's Autonomous Cars and Trucks Department.
