Archbishop of the Anglican Church accused of sexual harassment in the USA
Archbishop Stephen Wood of the Anglican Church has been accused of sexual harassment and abuse of power in the United States. The accusations came from the former director of the children's ministry, Claire Buxton. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP) on October 23.
According to Buxton, in April 2024, Wood put his hand on her head and tried to kiss her in his office. The woman also accused the archbishop of offering her $1,000 from the church treasury before the official advance payment for the work.
If these charges go to trial, the archbishop may be defrocked and dismissed, the article says. At the same time, Wood denies all charges and declined to comment.
Wood currently remains rector of St. Andrew's Church in Charleston, South Carolina, and bishop in charge of the diocese, which consists of more than 40 churches throughout the southern United States. He has a wife and four sons.
On October 9, the British tabloid Mirror reported that a passenger on an easyJet plane flying from Naples to Edinburgh tried to rape a woman during the flight. Eyewitnesses reported that passengers and flight attendants were shocked by the incident, and the victim immediately contacted the police as soon as the plane landed in Edinburgh.
