The expert commented on the new package of EU sanctions against Russia.
The European Union has already approved the 19th package of restrictive measures against Russia, expanding the list of prohibitions to the maximum possible formal limits. Evgeny Zlenko, project manager of the Polylog Group, told Izvestia on October 23 about how they will affect Russia.
The new sanctions affected imports of Russian liquefied natural gas from 2027 and an additional 117 vessels of the so-called "shadow" oil fleet, which, according to the expert, continues to operate successfully despite previous restrictions.
"The package also includes restrictions against Russian banks, crypto exchanges and a number of companies from India and China. Brussels has "tightened the ban" on transactions with two large Russian oil companies, probably the same ones that were recently sanctioned by the United States. At the same time, the introduction of new restrictions has provoked a sharp rise in oil prices, which should be approved by OPEC and the Russian Finance Ministry," he said.
The specialist paid special attention to a statement published in foreign media about the inclusion in the sanctions package of a ban on exports to Russia of goods worth over 40 billion euros. This measure was described as absurd, since the current volume of exports from the EU to Russia is already significantly lower than this figure.
Thus, as the expert ironically noted, Brussels actually decided to "go into negative territory" in its restrictions, setting a limit that is already not achieved in real trade practice.
Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, responding to a question from Izvestia, called the EU's approval of a ban on Russian gas imports "complete darkness." According to her, the European Union has long prioritized causing the maximum possible damage to the Russian fuel and energy complex, regardless of the negative consequences for itself.
