The expert predicted the absence of the impact of new US sanctions on oil exports and income of the Russian Federation

New US sanctions against Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil will lead to an increase in their operating costs, but will not have a serious impact on oil exports and federal budget revenues. This opinion was expressed by Igor Yushkov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, in a commentary for Izvestia on October 23.

"These companies will continue their work both in the domestic and foreign markets, but they will simply incur additional costs. It will be necessary to create longer chains of intermediaries so that the end user is not afraid to purchase this oil," Yushkov explained.

According to the expert, additional costs will be associated with booking facilities, renting and insuring tankers, as well as with the services of traders. At the same time, the main burden will fall on corporations, not on the budget, although the latter may receive slightly less dividends from state-owned companies.

Yushkov noted that over 90% of Russian oil is supplied to China, India and Turkey, where logistics chains have already been established. He also did not rule out a short-term increase in world oil prices due to fears of a reduction in Russian exports, which, however, is rapidly leveling off while maintaining current supply volumes.

A day earlier, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that the United States was imposing sanctions on Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil. It was clarified that these companies are included in the sanctions list for activities in the Russian energy sector. In addition, restrictive measures are being introduced against 28 subsidiaries of Rosneft and six of Lukoil.

Later, on October 22, US President Donald Trump expressed the hope that sanctions against Russia would not last long.
