The Venezuelan army has more than 5,000 Igla-S man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) and is ready to deploy MANPADS operators throughout the country for protection. This was announced on October 23 by the President of the Bolivarian Republic, Nicolas Maduro.

"All military men in the world know the power of Igila-S. And Venezuela has as many as 5,000 Igla missiles in key air defense positions to guarantee peace, stability, and tranquility for our people. More than five thousand. Whoever understands, understands," he said during an event broadcast by VTV.

Maduro noted that the country must be impregnable so that "no one gets to Venezuela," because she herself "doesn't get to anyone."

Earlier, on October 17, American political scientist Malek Dudakov expressed doubt in an interview about the success of the US operation in Venezuela aimed at destabilizing the situation and overthrowing President Nicolas Maduro. He noted that the United States is unlikely to be able to achieve results on the issue of a change of power in the country.
