The Chief of the General Staff of the French Armed Forces, General Fabien Mandon, called on the army to begin preparations for a major military conflict in 3-4 years. This was reported by the newspaper Le Figaro on October 22.

"The first task that I set for the armed forces is to be prepared for a shock in 3-4 years, which will be a kind of test — perhaps the test already exists in hybrid forms — but perhaps violent," the newspaper quoted Mandon as saying.

According to the publication, the general formulated his position in the context of the confrontation with Russia. The head of the General Staff also drew attention to the need to strengthen the defense budget and modernize the state's weapons.

On October 22, Alexey Meshkov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to France, told Izvestia that Russian-French relations were at the stage of a "deep freeze" due to the lack of dialogue between the countries. He added that no concrete steps had been taken after the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron in the summer.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
