The European Union (EU) cannot decide on its position regarding the issue of a "reparation loan" to Ukraine at the expense of Russian assets. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on October 22.

France, Germany and Italy want a potential loan for the Ukrainian side to receive a guarantee of repayment immediately to the EU military budget, and not through other means. The opposite side, which includes the Netherlands and the Nordic and Baltic countries, believes that Ukraine should have the right to spend money.

It is clarified that EU officials hope that Ukraine, upon receiving a loan, will buy weapons from them, but they understand their inability to supply. In addition, the publication noted that the loan funds will be used for both defense needs and regular budget support, but the exact breakdown is still unknown.
