On October 22, US President Donald Trump announced that he intends to discuss with President of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Xi Jinping Beijing's purchase of oil from Russia, as well as discuss the conclusion of a deal.

According to him, the United States will be able to achieve this and other agreements, including those related to rare earth metals, since "tariffs are much stronger" than those goods that are subject to them.

"I will talk to President Xi about this (the termination of oil purchases from the Russian Federation. - Ed.) <...> India, as you know, has already informed me that it is stopping purchases — this is a process that cannot be stopped instantly <...> The situation with China is a little different. They have a special relationship with Russia," he said during a conversation with reporters at the White House.

He added that Washington "will be able to come to an agreement," but did not specify exactly how this would happen.

On October 21, Trump, speaking at a lunch in the new courtyard of the White House, which was named the Rose Garden Club, said he intended to "talk about a lot" at the upcoming meeting with the Chinese leader. According to him, the talks will take place in two weeks in South Korea.
