The European Union (EU) will accelerate the phase-out of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia. This was announced on October 22 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, David van Wil.

"It is important to note that the EU has adopted the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. It includes new measures aimed at Russian revenues. We will accelerate the gradual abandonment of Russian liquefied natural gas," reads a post on X (formerly Twitter).

According to the Dutch Foreign Minister, the European Union is determined to abandon the use of Russian gas.

The Reuters news agency reported earlier in the day that the EU had approved the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. It was clarified that the new package of restrictive measures would enter into force if approved by the EU Council. The agency added that the written procedure has already been launched.
