Israel called the UN court's decision "shameful."
On October 22, Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Danny Danon, called the advisory decision of the International Court of Justice of the United Nations, obliging Israel to provide for the basic needs of the Palestinian population and cooperate with humanitarian organizations, "shameful."
"The [court's] decision is a shameful decision. They accuse Israel of not cooperating with UN bodies <...> They should blame themselves. These bodies have become breeding grounds for terrorists," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
The International Court of Justice has ruled that Israel must respect the prohibition on the use of hunger as a method of war, provide aid to the Palestinian population and promote UN assistance programs, including the activities of UNRWA. UN Secretary General Anthony Guterres called the decision important and called for its implementation.
Earlier in the day, the UN court ordered Israel to provide for the basic needs of the Palestinians. The Court pointed out that Israel's obligations in this area are enshrined in Article 59 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. The advisory opinion was prepared based on the results of the meetings where the issues of Israel's obligations regarding the presence of international organizations in the Palestinian territories were considered.
