The Russian Embassy in Peru has advised Russians to be vigilant.
Russian citizens should be vigilant when visiting Peru. This was announced to Izvestia on October 22 at the Russian Embassy in the country.
"The embassy recommends that Russians visiting Peru be vigilant," the diplomats said.
At the same time, the diplomatic mission noted that there was no increase in threats to Russians staying in the country. The embassy also did not receive any appeals from the affected citizens of the Russian Federation.
In addition, the diplomats drew attention to the fact that the state of emergency in Lima was declared not because of alleged violence during protest actions, but primarily due to the desire of the authorities to increase the effectiveness of the fight against organized crime.
On October 17, Reuters reported that the Peruvian authorities would declare a state of emergency in Lima.
In September, representatives of the younger generation staged mass riots during anti-government protests in Lima. The rallies were held under the slogan "Generation Z against President Dina Boluarte." The participants opposed the reform of the pension system, and also demanded more transparent work of the government and parliament of the country. They also supported animal rights and environmental initiatives.
On October 10, the Peruvian parliament unanimously voted to impeach President Dina Boluarte amid rising crime. The Chairman of the Peruvian Congress, Jose Heri, took the oath of office as the new President of the republic. Later, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed support for the new leader of Peru.
