On October 22, the Director General of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Emil Sutovsky, said that the reaction of former world champion Vladimir Kramnik to the death of American grandmaster and commentator Daniel Naroditsky was outrageous and shameful.

The day before, Kramnik wrote on social media that Naroditsky had been experiencing health problems for a long time, and called himself the only person who "shouted about Daniel's obvious long-term problems." According to him, at the same time, Naroditsky's friends tried to hide the chess player's problems.

"One thing is clear: Kramnik's approach to this issue is simply unacceptable. And his reaction to Dani's death is outrageous and simply shameful," Sutovsky wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

He added that FIDE is not a court, but the organization will act "within its jurisdiction." The FIDE CEO also drew attention to the fact that Kramnik's attacks on the American grandmaster continued for more than a year.

"It wasn't a shocking accusation that killed Danya overnight. It haunted him for more than a year, even if the recent controversy [with Kramnik] was not so violent," Sutovsky stressed.

He also criticized those who show love for Naroditsky only after his death, wondering where they were when the commentator disappeared from the media field and needed help.

On October 20, FIDE announced Naroditsky's death. The federation stressed that the American was a talented chess player, commentator and teacher. He represented the United States at the World Team Championships in 2015 and took first place at the National Masters Championships in 2019.
