Sweden will send Ukraine from 100 to 150 Gripen E fighters
Ukraine will be able to receive more than a hundred new Swedish Gripen E fighters in the future, which will help strengthen the country's air Force. This was announced on October 22 by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
"Probably, from 100 to 150 Gripen Model E aircraft, the production of which has already begun, will be aimed at creating a new powerful Ukrainian Air Force," TV4 quoted him as saying.
In addition, Kristersson added that the modernization of the Ukrainian Air Force is designed for 10-15 years.
Earlier in the day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with Kristersson in the Swedish city of Linkoping, where the Saab defense company is located. At the press conference, Kiev's intention to buy Gripen was discussed, after which the parties signed an agreement.
The JAS 39 Gripen E is the latest version of the Swedish fighter developed by SAAV. A special feature of the model is a more powerful engine compared to previous models, as well as a longer flight range, improved radar and electronics.
On September 30, the Swedish Ministry of Defense denied Ukraine's claim to supply Gripen fighter jets. He added that Stockholm is only considering the possibility of delivery.
In 2024, Sweden suspended plans to send its Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine after partner countries decided to supply American F-16s.
