Sweden and Ukraine have signed a letter of intent paving the way for the sale of Swedish Gripen E fighter jets to Kiev. This was stated on October 22 by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson at a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which was broadcast on the Swedish government's website.

"Zelensky and I have just signed a letter of intent between Sweden and Ukraine. This is the beginning of a long journey, but it brings us closer to a major export deal for the Swedish defense manufacturer Saab and Sweden with Ukraine," Kristersson said.

The Prime Minister noted that the signed document opens up opportunities for the sale of Gripen E fighter jets, which will be a significant step in strengthening defense ties between the two countries.

The head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said on October 20 that the EU countries lack about 300,000 shells to fulfill their obligations to Ukraine to provide 2 million this year. She also noted that the EU has only 1 million shells, which were supplied on the Czech initiative. On October 21, a military expert, retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk, said that the situation with the provision of shells for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is critical. The colonel stressed that in order to fully conduct combat operations, it is necessary to deploy production of at least 100,000 shells per day, which is impossible to achieve now.
