The political scientist assessed Uzbekistan's rapprochement with the European Union
Uzbekistan is building a multi-vector partnership with many countries and associations, the European direction is not a priority and exclusive. This was stated by Andrey Grozin, head of the Central Asia Department at the Institute of CIS Countries, in an interview with Izvestia.
"Uzbekistan adheres to a pragmatic approach, focused on solving economic problems, rather than promoting any ideology. I am ready to negotiate with everyone, including the European Union (EU). At the same time, I do not think that Tashkent considers the EU a priority, after all, much more intensive trade is conducted with Russia, China and neighboring countries," he argues.
The expert adds that the European Union is going through difficult times, so Uzbekistan should hardly hope for large-scale investments.
Earlier it became known that on October 24, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will visit Brussels, where he will sign an agreement on expanded cooperation between the republic and the European Union. This document will replace the previously valid agreement from 1996.
On September 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed to the dynamic development of relations between Russia and Uzbekistan. He also expressed confidence in the further expansion of Russian-Uzbek relations in all areas.
