Timur Ivanov, the former Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia, who was convicted of embezzlement, expressed his readiness to go to the special operation zone as part of an assault unit. His lawyer Denis Baluyev informed Izvestia about this on October 22.
"Timur Ivanov informed the defenders of his desire and asked them to prepare the relevant procedural documents," Baluyev said.
The former deputy minister was detained on April 23, 2024. He is charged with accepting a bribe. According to investigators, he entered into a criminal conspiracy with the heads of contractors who worked at the facilities of the Ministry of Defense. Ivanov signed contracts with them in exchange for a personal reward.
On July 1, he was sentenced to 13 years in a penal colony. In addition, he must pay a fine of 100 million rubles. He was also stripped of his state award and the title of Honored Builder of the Russian Federation.
On August 27, a new criminal case was opened against Ivanov. On September 23, it became known that on November 6, the court would hold a preliminary hearing on the claim of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation for the seizure of the property of the former Deputy Minister of Defense to the state revenue.
