More than 3 million Russians must replace their driver's licenses by January 1.
In Russia, from January 1, 2025, the automatic renewal of driver's licenses will cease, which will require the replacement of documents from 3-5 million citizens. Bulat Kilov, the founder of KRYTEX, told Izvestia about this on October 22.
According to him, more than 90% of citizens who have used the automatic renewal of their rights now have to go through the standard replacement procedure through a medical commission and payment of state duty.
"Moreover, it is better not to delay the start of the renewal in order to avoid long queues. Speaking of specifics, in principle this is a standard procedure: first you need to undergo a medical examination. Moscow residents have the opportunity to be examined by all doctors in the clinic as part of a paid program. Thus, it will not be necessary to undergo a separate narcologist and a psychotherapist," Kilov said.
After that, it is necessary to pay the state duty, the amount of which has been increased since September 1 of this year.
As the expert noted, a third of Russians assessed the increase in the amount of the duty as significant for the family budget. After meeting these requirements, you can choose a convenient way to obtain your rights — through the traffic police department, the offices of the MFC, or through an application on the Public Services portal. The document issuance procedure itself takes no more than 5-10 minutes, and the certificate is issued on the same day.
On October 22, Turgunboy Zokirov, an assistant at the Moscow State Law University's Department of Administrative Law and Procedure, announced that the automatic renewal of driver's licenses will cease to be valid starting January 1, 2026. It is specified that the function will become invalid four years after its introduction, which occurred in 2022.
