French President Emmanuel Macron's internal problems have "clouded his ambitions" and weakened his influence in the European Union (EU). This was reported by the Politico newspaper on October 22.

"Macron will arrive in Brussels on Thursday for a key meeting of the European Council. His reputation as a generator of ideas on the continent has long been lost, and it has been replaced by a new one: the main bore," the article says.

It is noted that European leaders can no longer rely on Macron's "grandiose ideas" amid existential crises.

"In recent months, Macron has become more cautious, rejecting proposals that could cause a negative reaction in France," the publication clarifies.

Politico spoke with 10 diplomats and officials from across the EU. They agreed that Macron's internal problems and focus on his legacy "have turned him into an obstacle to progress rather than its engine." Recently, the French president has consistently rejected many of the ideas put forward by the EU authorities.

"Macron is completely preoccupied with internal problems. He is no longer the European champion we once knew," the EU diplomat said.

According to the newspaper, the French leader was nicknamed the "main analytical center" of the EU. The flow of Macron's initiatives and ideas to reform Europe defined his early period as a leader on the world stage. Now European diplomats are already talking about Macron in the past tense, although he is due to leave his post only in 2027.

Earlier, on October 15, Le Journal du Demanche magazine reported that almost 70% of the French are in favor of holding early presidential elections. It was noted that 61% of citizens support Macron's resignation. Women are most in favor of holding early elections (70%), while among men this figure is 65%.

Former French Defense Minister Herve Morin said on October 11 that the political crisis in France could be resolved only if Macron resigned, but not by reappointing the prime minister or dissolving the government. According to him, France is currently unable to carry out normal reforms and develop, and is going through very difficult times in general.
