The hacking of the British automaker Jaguar Land Rover in August 2025 cost the UK economy $2.5 billion and affected more than 5,000 different organizations in the country. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on October 22.

According to a report by the Center for Cyber Monitoring (CMC), the cost of losses may increase if there are unexpected delays in restoring production.

"This incident appears to be the most economically disruptive cyber event to hit the UK, with the vast majority of the financial impact attributed to the loss of industrial production at JLR and its suppliers," the CMC report said.

It is noted that JLR, which, according to analysts, was losing about 50 million pounds ($66.5 million) per week, received a loan guarantee of 1.5 billion pounds ($1.9 billion) from the British government at the end of September.

The disruption of production due to the cyber incident was first reported by JLR on September 2. Many of its 33,000 employees were forced to go idle. It is not yet known who is responsible for the hacking. It was preceded by serious attacks on large British companies, including Marks & Spencer and Co-op, in both cases hackers tried to extort money.

Later, on October 7, JLR announced the beginning of a phased resumption of operations a month after the cyberattack. JLR also announced the accelerated implementation of a new financing scheme that will provide suppliers who meet certain requirements with advance payments during the restart phase to restore their financial flows.
