In 2025, the average receipt for a new set of winter tires in the period from August to the first half of October increased by almost 24% compared to last year. This was reported to Izvestia on October 22 by analysts of the Megamarket.

Tires remain the most expensive item of expenditure when preparing a car for winter, analysts said. The average receipt for a new set was 35,527 rubles. The increase affected almost all categories: domestic tires rose in price by 32% (21,200 rubles), European, Japanese and American (59,540 rubles) — by 22%, Chinese — by 1% (29,100 rubles).

The increase in winter tire prices is due to the poor harvest of natural rubber and restrictions in the production of synthetics, experts at the Megamarket say.

According to the company's analysis, the majority of Russians are still choosing more affordable options. 85% of buyers choose tires that cost up to 15,000 rubles apiece, another 13% are willing to spend from 15,000 to 30,000 rubles, and only 2% choose premium models that cost more than 30,000 rubles per tire.

Most often, tires are bought in mid-August (38%) and September (37%), but the real excitement begins in the first weeks of October, when the share of sales reaches more than 51% of the total volume of the category. The purchase of tires is mainly carried out by men — their share is 77%.

Megamarket analysts also calculated the average cost of a basic set of popular car preparation products for winter — it amounted to about 8.4 thousand rubles. It includes 5 liters of engine oil, antifreeze, wiper fluid, as well as a set of filters — oil, air and cabin.

Earlier, on October 13, automotive expert Maxim Rakitin told what signs indicate the unsuitability of winter tires. In order to understand whether winter tires are suitable for use, it is important to check their age, the condition of the spikes and the tread depth, he noted. Rakitin explained that the average service life of tires is about five to six years: after this period, their properties deteriorate and their efficiency decreases.
