Sobyanin noted Moscow's success in cancer treatment
The early diagnosis of cancer has increased in Moscow in five years from 62.3% to 67.7%, said the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin. He recalled that since 2019, a new standard of cancer care has been introduced in Moscow.
"Moscow is a leader in the treatment of oncological diseases," Sobyanin wrote on the MAX messenger. He noted that this became possible due to the introduction of a new standard of cancer care. "His goal is to verify the tumor as quickly as possible and begin treatment," the mayor emphasized.
During this time, five multidisciplinary cancer centers have been established in the capital. All assistance, from diagnosis to follow—up after completion of treatment, is provided within the framework of one medical organization. This reduces the time for diagnosis, increases accuracy and saves time, the mayor of the capital said.
Sobyanin said that 60% of patients have been registered for more than five years after diagnosis. At the same time, mortality decreased from 17% in 2019 to 11.5% in 2024.
Telemedicine is also available to patients. More than 143,000 online consultations have been conducted in the capital. Digital monitoring of patients undergoing chemotherapy has been introduced in Moscow, and remote renewal of previously issued prescriptions for a number of medicines is also used.
The Moscow program of modern drug therapy covers 90% of oncological diseases. "Moscow became the first region where federal clinical guidelines for the treatment of cancer began to operate three years ahead of schedule," the mayor noted.
All pathomorphological laboratories have been digitized and integrated into a single digital circuit. Doctors work with high-precision digital imaging instead of glasses and a microscope. "This speeds up diagnosis, improves its quality, and allows consultations to be conducted online. The number of molecular genetic studies has almost tripled," Sobyanin said.
