In the Chelyabinsk region, on the 287th km of the Birsk - Tastuba–Satka highway, a 57–year-old driver, driving a truck, entered a lane intended for oncoming traffic, where he crashed into a metal barrier fence, after which he collided with a passenger car moving in the opposite direction. As a result of the accident, the driver and the 13-year-old passenger of the car, who was in the back seat and was wearing a seat belt, were killed.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urges truck drivers to strictly observe the rules of the road and driving discipline.
"When driving a truck, it is necessary to correctly assess its inertia depending on the speed and load, the dimensions of the vehicle, the condition and width of the roadway, the terrain and the possibility of skidding the car. It is also necessary to take into account the density of traffic flow, the speed of traffic in its own and, most importantly, in the oncoming lanes. Heavy-duty vehicle drivers need to avoid risky driving, overtaking, and other dangerous maneuvers. They should remember that not only their own lives and health are in their hands, but also the lives of other road users," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
