Japan still intends to sign a peace treaty with the Russian side after the territorial issue is resolved. This was announced on October 22 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the island state, Toshimitsu Motegi.

"We intend to continue to adhere to the position that we aim to conclude a peace treaty with Russia after resolving the territorial issue," the Foreign minister said during a press conference.

According to him, at the moment it is impossible to say anything on this issue, since the Japanese side supports Kiev and carries out sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.

On October 21, Acting head of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Yoji Muto, said that imports of Russian energy resources play an important role in maintaining Japan's energy security, as they cover about 3% of the island nation's total energy base.
