The Altai Republic has approved additional measures to restrict the sale of alcohol and tobacco, which will come into force on March 1, 2026. This was announced on October 21 by the head of the region Andrey Turchak.

"At the Government meeting, additional measures were taken to restrict the sale of alcohol and tobacco in the Republic. They were proposed at the Council on Public Health Promotion. Today we have adjusted them taking into account the opinions of residents, the public and our economic bloc. Alcohol sales time on weekdays will be reduced from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Friday to 4 p.m., on Saturday to 2 p.m.," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The governor also noted that on Sundays and public holidays, alcohol sales are completely prohibited in shops located in apartment buildings and near educational institutions.

It is specified that these bans will not apply to hotels, camp sites and other accommodation facilities that have been accredited and licensed to sell alcohol.

"We will start putting things in order with the sale of alcohol and tobacco right now. Especially in terms of the work of "bailouts" in the residential sector, which bring nothing but an increase in offenses and "headaches" to our residents," Turchak stressed.

Turchak reported on October 14 that the authorities of the Altai Republic would significantly tighten the conditions for the sale of alcohol in the region in the near future in order to reduce the death rate, which has exceeded the birth rate since last year. It is noted that to improve the situation, the regional authorities intend to limit the time of alcohol sales from Monday to Thursday from 11:00 to 19:00, and on Friday from 11:00 to 16:00.
