Nobody bought Vysotsky's posthumous bronze mask at an auction in Monaco
The posthumous bronze mask of the author-performer Vladimir Vysotsky, cast in 1980, could not be sold at the Hermitage Fine Art auction, which took place on October 21 at the Metropol Hotel in Monaco.
As RIA Novosti reported, this lot became one of their most expensive at the event. According to the auctioneer who is going to auction, the future fate of the mask is determined by its owner, who can either re-auction the lot or withdraw it.
It is clarified that the least likely option is to reduce the value of the lot. The Hermitage Fine Art auction house did not comment on the absence of buyers of the mask.
Earlier, on October 13, it was reported that Vysotsky's posthumous bronze mask would be auctioned in Monaco. Representatives of Hermitage Fine Art estimated its value at €100-120 thousand. The mask bears the initials of Vysotsky's widow and the year of its creation. The original plaster mask was made by Soviet sculptor Yuri Vasiliev, who also created an impression of Vysotsky's left hand.
