- Emergency mode introduced due to snow in Omsk region will be extended to all districts
In the Omsk region, the emergency regime introduced due to early snow will be extended to all regions of the region. This was announced by Governor Vitaly Khotsenko at a meeting on the harvesting campaign.
"During the meeting, it was decided to introduce an emergency regime throughout the region so that farmers would have the opportunity to contact insurance companies. We continue the harvesting campaign," the politician then said in his Telegram channel.
As of October 21, 420 thousand hectares of crops remain under snow. Khotsenko noted that the Omsk region is in the zone of risky farming and it is important that farmers continue to actively work with insurance companies. To date, 959 thousand hectares have been insured in the region.
According to OmskMedia news agency, earlier the emergency mode was introduced in 16 of the 32 districts of the region. The reason was heavy rains and, as a result, waterlogging of the soil, which caused the equipment to get bogged down in the fields. Later, the situation worsened — a sharp cold snap and sleet came to the region.
According to the operational data of the agriculture Committee, by October 21, farmers had threshed more than 3.4 million tons of grain, which is 10.7% lower than in 2024, which became a record (3.81 million tons). At the same time, the average yield reached 22 c/ha against last year's 19.1 c/ha.
The news agency, referring to one of the forecast services, also writes that in late November the temperature in the Omsk region may drop to -36 degrees.
