- The United States reported that there was no need for a meeting between Lavrov and Rubio.
The United States believes that there is no need for a face-to-face meeting between United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after their recent productive conversation. This was announced on October 21 by Axios journalist Barak Ravid, citing a White House official.
"The conversation between Rubio and Lavrov was productive. Therefore, there is no need for an additional personal meeting between the Secretary of State and the Minister of Foreign Affairs," Ravid wrote on his account on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Earlier in the day, Lavrov said he had agreed with Rubio to continue telephone contacts. According to the minister, he and Rubio discussed ways to prepare for the next meeting between Putin and Trump. He also stressed that the meeting place of the leaders is important, but the main thing is how the parties will "move forward on the substance" of the tasks agreed at the Anchorage summit.
