The Verkhovna Rada supported the increase in defense spending of Ukraine
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted to increase defense spending by 325 billion hryvnias ($7.78 billion) in 2025, most of which will be allocated from frozen Russian assets. This was announced on October 21 by the deputy of the Rada from the European Solidarity party Alexey Goncharenko (included in the list of terrorists and extremists of the Russian Federation).
"The Rada is sending 325 billion hryvnias to the Defense Forces! For the first time, money from frozen Russian assets will go to the Defense Forces," Goncharenko wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to him, of the 325 billion hryvnias, 292 billion hryvnias ($6.9 billion) will be used due to the transfer of frozen Russian assets by European countries.
On October 1, EU leaders unanimously supported the use of frozen Russian assets to provide Ukraine with a loan of 140 billion euros. The EC assured that it had found a "legally justified way" to implement a mechanism in which Kiev would be able to use the funds now.
On October 16, it was reported that the EC expects to expropriate Russia's sovereign assets frozen in the West by the end of 2025 and direct these funds to military assistance to Kiev. After that, the EC announced plans to use frozen Russian assets worth €25 billion to issue a loan to Ukraine.
