Calls for a truce in Ukraine right now, without eliminating the root causes of the conflict, contradict the agreements reached in Alaska by Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump. This was announced on October 21 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a joint press conference with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gideon Timotheos following the talks.

"Those who have now begun to convince our American colleagues to change their position and not seek a long-term, sustainable settlement, but simply stop, and then let history judge <...> But this approach means the exact opposite of what Presidents Trump and Putin parted ways on in Anchorage when they agreed to focus on the root causes."He told reporters.
