A Slovak court has sentenced 72-year-old Juraj Tsintula to 21 years in prison, who shot and wounded Prime Minister Robert Fico in May 2024. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on October 21.

"A Slovak court has ruled that the man who shot and wounded Prime Minister Robert Fico last year is guilty of terrorism, and sentenced him to 21 years in prison," the article says.

Tsintula stated that he wanted to injure, but not kill Fico, as he wanted to prevent the prime minister from continuing his policy, which, in his opinion, "damages freedom and culture of Slovakia."

The assassination attempt on Fico took place on May 15, 2024, when he came out to the audience who greeted him. The politician had previously often criticized NATO and Western policy towards Ukraine. He noted that the supply of weapons to Kiev is not a suitable solution, and the funds that are aimed at this have been wasted.
