In the first seven months of 2025, the average car ownership period reached 69 months. This is reported in a press release from the NAPI Marketing Agency, received by Izvestia on October 21.

The NAPI analysis affected the average time of first ownership of new passenger cars in 2023-2025 by private owners. In 2023, motorists operated the car for an average of 63 months, in 2024 - 4.5 months longer.

By July of this year, car ownership periods increased for German (83 months), South Korean (79 months), French (89 months), Japanese (85 months) and Czech (81 months) brands.

Kia (+19 months to 77 months) and Hyundai (+20 months to 78 months) recorded the largest increase in first-time ownership over the period from 2023 to 2025. The terms of ownership of Russian-made cars have also increased slightly: from 67 to 77 months for UAZ and from 57 to 58 months for Lada. The terms of ownership of premium cars also increased, with an increase of 10 months (63 months) in the case of BMW, 13 months (70 months) in the case of Mercedes-Benz, and 22 months (92 months) in the case of Audi.

The ownership period of Chinese cars has decreased from 49 to 32 months, as new models from China have entered the market since 2022, which has led to an active renewal of cars.

Earlier, Ruslan Nikulin, director of the logistics department at Forsage Lubricants, said that the most rational point of car ownership is around the age of 10. He also said that the cost of fuel, repairs and maintenance increases with age, and the car itself loses in price every year. According to him, at some point the costs begin to outweigh the benefits, and "driving for a long time" ceases to be economically justified.
