There is an understanding between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, but we cannot postpone what has not been recorded. This was announced on October 21 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during a briefing.

"We have an understanding of the presidents, but we cannot postpone what has not been recorded. Neither President Trump nor Putin mentioned exact dates," he said, answering a question about media reports that a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio might not take place, and the summit might be postponed.

On the same day, CNN reported that the meeting between Lavrov and Rubio, which was expected this week, was allegedly postponed. According to the source of the TV channel, it was clarified that Lavrov and Rubio have different opinions on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, Reuters reported that Lavrov and Rubio could meet on Thursday, October 23.

Later, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov noted that it was impossible to postpone something that had not been agreed upon. According to Ryabkov, the Russian and American sides "did not have a close understanding" of the date and place of such contact. He also drew attention to the fact that such a meeting requires preparation.

Earlier, on October 20, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Lavrov and Rubio discussed in a telephone conversation possible concrete steps to implement the understandings that were reached during the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump.
