The surgeon warned about the dangers of rhinoplasty with fillers
Injectable rhinoplasty using fillers can lead to serious complications, including tissue necrosis and irreversible vision loss. This was stated by rhinosurgeon and plastic surgeon Sergey Karpovich in an interview with Izvestia on October 22.
According to the expert, although the procedure seems to many to be a quick and affordable solution for correcting the shape of the nose, it carries significant risks that are often underestimated by patients. As the specialist explained, fillers based on hyaluronic acid are able to mask a slight hump or slight asymmetry, but they cannot radically change the shape of the nose.
"An important limitation is that with pronounced features, the nose only visually increases, while maintaining its original proportions. Over time, the fillers begin to migrate under the influence of facial expressions and gravity, which leads to the loss of clear contours and the appearance of a "potato nose" effect, the doctor warned.
The anatomy of the nasal region is particularly dangerous, characterized by intensive blood supply and proximity to the ocular arteries. Ingestion of the drug into the vessel can cause its blockage, leading to tissue necrosis within a few hours. The most critical complication is the penetration of filler into the ocular artery, which can cause instant and irreversible blindness.
Karpovich noted that the apparent simplicity of the procedure creates a false sense of security for patients. However, even in the absence of complications, fillers leave long-term consequences in the form of scars and tissue fibrosis, which significantly complicates the implementation of classical rhinoplasty in the future. The plastic surgeon emphasized that achieving a predictable aesthetic result after injections becomes extremely difficult due to the altered tissue structure.
"Fillers should be used only for spot correction of minor asymmetries after previous operations, provided the procedure is performed by a qualified surgeon. In all other cases, injectable rhinoplasty is only a temporary disguise of problems, not their solution, and can create serious obstacles to further surgical intervention," explained the rhinosurgeon.
Cosmetologist Yulia Nemilova spoke about dangerous beauty injections on February 17. According to the expert, the most important thing when choosing an injection procedure is a responsible approach and a serious choice of a specialist.
