The media reported on Comey's demand to stop the proceedings in his case.
Former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey called on the court to end the proceedings against him, explaining their vindictive persecution by US President Donald Trump. This was reported on October 20 by The Washington Post (WP) newspaper with reference to court documents.
"Former FBI Director James Comey on Monday asked a federal judge to drop the criminal case against him, calling it vindictive harassment," the publication says.
Comey's legal team, led by former U.S. Attorney in Chicago Patrick Fitzgerald, filed a motion accusing Trump of personally initiating the case on "clearly erroneous" accusations that the former FBI director lied to the American Congress.
The documents also mentioned that Comey's lawyers consider it illegal to appoint Lindsay Halligan to the post of U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. They asked District Judge Michael Nachmanoff to dismiss the case with prejudice, which means the charges cannot be retried.
On August 30, Trump announced the possible arrest of Comey and former head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Brennan for faking Moscow's alleged interference in the 2016 election process. He called the listed defendants very, very sick people. Later, on September 25, Komi declared his innocence.
