The West has turned Ukraine into a "land-based aircraft carrier" in order to create constant threats to Russia. This was announced on October 20 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"All the agreements that the West 'sponsored' in this regard <...> did not prevent it from bending its line, creating from Ukraine an 'anti-Russia', such a ground—based aircraft carrier to create constant threats to the Russian Federation," Lavrov said in an interview for a documentary project dedicated to the 80th anniversary of director N.S. Mikhalkov.

The Foreign Minister also recalled that after that there was a "coup d'etat, contrary to the agreements that it was necessary to strengthen national accord," the lack of implementation of the Minsk agreements and the persuasion of "Western" partners" to sign security guarantees for Ukraine, themselves and the Russian Federation so that there would be no ambiguities.

According to Lavrov, when Russia was forced to launch a special military operation, it turned out that all our foreign relations were used by the West to restrain the development of the Russian Federation.

The Foreign Minister noted that Russia is ready to cooperate with all countries on the basis of equality and mutual respect.

On October 20, the press service of the US Department of State published information on the department's website that Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Foreign Minister Lavrov about the importance of upcoming contacts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
