Consideration of a bill on sanctions that the United States may impose against Russia has been temporarily suspended by the U.S. Senate. This was announced on October 20 by the Republican leader in the Senate, John Thune.

It is specified that the discussions, which have been going on for several months, will stop at least until the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with American leader Donald Trump.

"At the moment, we're kind of hitting the pause button," the Bloomberg news agency quoted Thune as saying.

On October 16, Trump said in an interview with reporters that he was not against new sanctions against Russia, but now might not be the right time to introduce them. Accordingly, as noted, the American president commented on Thune's initiative on the need to take these measures against the Russian Federation.
