American leader Donald Trump said on October 20 that he expects to achieve a fair trade deal between the United States and China at an early meeting with Xi Jinping.

"Many countries have taken advantage of the United States. They don't use them anymore. China pays 55% [duties], and a potential 155% from November 1, if we do not conclude an agreement at the meeting with President Xi. We have a very good relationship. We will meet in South Korea in a couple of weeks and see what can be done," he said during talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the White House.
