WP reported on Trump's lack of reaction to Zelensky's statements during the meeting.
US President Donald Trump did not respond to statements by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky at the meeting. The Washington Post (WP) newspaper writes about this on October 20, citing sources.
As the newspaper notes, during a tense meeting at the White House, Trump advised Zelensky to accept the latest deal proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, or "face the destruction that Russia will inflict." Sources familiar with the negotiations claim that Trump urged Kiev to cede the entire Donbas in order to conclude a peace agreement with Russia.
Zelensky, in turn, tried to state his position, but, according to sources, did not get a reaction from Trump.
Earlier, on October 19, Zelensky said that during a meeting with Trump in Washington, he raised the issue of Kiev's participation in negotiations between the American leader and Putin in Budapest. In his opinion, the participation of both sides is necessary to achieve a long-term settlement. At the same time, the head of the Kiev regime refused to withdraw Ukrainian militants from the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). The media also reported that Trump called on Zelensky to accept Russia's terms to resolve the conflict.
On October 18, the Ukrainian edition of "Country.ua" stated that the American leader, during a meeting with Zelensky in Washington, broke Kiev's strategy based on an attempt to draw the United States into a more active role in the conflict.
The presidents met at the White House on October 17. Trump expressed hope for the end of the conflict in Ukraine without the transfer of Tomahawk.
