The august peculiarity: the drama of Bogomolov is approaching a billion
The total fees of the military drama "August" based on the novel "The Moment of Truth" reached 968 million rubles, of which 145 million over the past weekend. Moreover, this is the fourth week that August completes with absolute leadership. The "First on Olympus" with Gleb Kalyuzhny could not rise from the second place. But "Finnick 2" was able to get to the "bronze" at the preview screenings and earned 75 million, although it has not yet been formally released. About these and other figures of the weekend — in the Izvestia review.
After a hot summer
As expected, "August" continues to bring viewers to the cinema, remaining the most attractive release in the entire repertoire. 22 people per session is the highest figure in the top ten box office. And completely unimaginable, considering that the film has been on screens for almost a month, and this is not a Marvel blockbuster, but a drama based on a not very popular and even quite complex novel about counterintelligence. If "August" suddenly does not slow down, and it is unlikely to slow down, then by the end of next weekend it may take the place of the fifth largest film at the Russian box office. Currently, Nikolai Lebedev's Kraken with 1133 million rubles is located there. "August" has collected 153 million rubles this week, and these are preliminary figures, they may increase further. The film's production and attendance are good, and the only question is whether the cinemas will give it enough shows to reach a new level.

On the contrary, the "First on Olympus" with Gleb Kalyuzhny is still doing modestly. Despite the fact that the actor was discharged from the army for the premiere, which was actively covered in the press, the fan base turned out to be small. Or she got used to expressing her devotion in a different way, for example, by reviewing his old paintings like "14+" and "Outlaw," where he played his best roles. In any case, the "First on Olympus" silver medalist is not very convincing. Yes, he formally has 90 million rubles and the second place in fees, but that's just because he has too many sessions. He was given the most money last opening weekend, and it was in vain, because the average attendance was two times lower than that of August. This time, she went up from 13 to 16 people per session, due to the fact that some of these same sessions were returned to the cinemas of "Augusta"! He had the most of them this time, more than 14 thousand. But the "First on Olympus" still looks pretty pale, it has the lowest operating time in the top 5. In an interview with Izvestia, Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain, noted that the release should not be written off.
— Over the weekend, the sports drama with Gleb Kalyuzhny has mastered almost 90 million and rightfully secured the second line of the top. A drop in fees of less than 20% is a good result for the second weekend, the film will still be able to work in the fall, she is convinced.
What's wrong with Finnick
"Finnick 2" doesn't seem to have been fully released yet, the release is scheduled for this Thursday. But at the box office, it often happens that before full-fledged distribution, the film is released in the "preview" format, with a small number of sessions in order to roll out the release and create a "sundress" for it. In this case, the word "preview" is purely conditional. Finnik had almost 9 thousand sessions, for comparison, the new Lermontov, which is described below, had less than 4 thousand sessions, and the First on Olympus had 13.6 thousand. If this is a preview, it's a fairly large-scale one, comparable to the rental of a not-so-small tape. Therefore, it is not surprising to finish in third place with 74 million rubles.

But it's worth paying attention to something else.: The long-awaited family tape has 20 people per session, which is less than that of "August". The operating time is slightly above 8 thousand rubles per session, which is also not a good result.
— The project about a brownie beloved by children got to the third line of the top in just two days off — this is an excellent result, — Olga Zinyakova disagrees. — The project's operating time is also excellent. The animation starts in the full box office only on October 23 and promises to become a leader. The preview notifies about the release of the project in advance: viewers often learn about the films only after seeing them in the cinema screening schedule. And since the audience really liked the first part, the sequel is definitely going to be a success.
The first Finnik was released in 2022 and raised almost half a billion rubles, it was in the spring, when American distributors left Russia one by one. Finnick automatically found itself in an advantageous position. Since the situation has not changed, the cartoon has a chance to repeat its success, although it is unlikely that it will be possible to give figures higher than the first part.

The fourth place of the box office is occupied by "Dracula". The film has been at the box office even longer than "August", but they don't just keep going to it: Luc Besson's black comedy has the highest earnings this weekend. 10.6 thousand rubles per session, this is a real national love.
The main surprise of the weekend is the success of Bakur Bakuradze's arthouse drama Lermontov, the best weekend in the entire career of the renowned festival director, winner of Kinotavr and other reviews and awards. The film entered the top 5 and earned 26 million rubles. This is not very much compared to the top leaders, but his operating time is higher than that of the "First on Olympus", and this is worth a lot.
"After the great success of The Prophet with Yura Borisov, the biographical film Lermontov about another great Russian writer could not go unnoticed,— notes Olga Zinyakova. — The new film by Bakur Bakuradze, director of "Shultes" and screenwriter of the films "Salyut-7" and "Challenge", received positive criticism, and it was the festival fate of the film that worked as a rental booster. Given the author's perspective of the project, the lack of big names in the caste and incomparable investments in marketing with the Prophet, Lermontov was only on the fifth line of the top, and this is a worthy result.

Perhaps not all of the 50,000 viewers of "Lermontov" immediately became fans of Bakuradze's pronounced author's style, but perhaps his past works, the same "Shultes", "Snow in my yard", "Brother Dayan", "Hunter" and "Moscow", will receive new fans, and this It inspires unexpected hope and makes us believe in the future of Russian cinema.
