Ukraine is demanding from the European Union (EU) a new €60 billion for armaments, an unimaginable amount. This was announced on October 20 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"Ukraine is demanding €60 billion for further armament, isn't it? <...> An absurd amount," Szijjarto said at a press conference following a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

According to him, the European Union wants to spend these funds on arming Kiev, instead of strengthening the defense capabilities of EU member states. Szijjarto pointed to the growing popularity of such ideas.

Earlier, on September 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the country's goal is to receive $1 billion per month as part of an agreement between the United States and NATO on the supply of weapons to Kiev. He clarified that the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) initiative provides an opportunity for Kiev to purchase weapons, in particular Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems and other American equipment.

Before that, on September 11, it became known that Ukraine was requesting $60 billion from the West, which would not include direct arms supplies and funds allocated by Washington. It was clarified that compared to 2024, Ukraine's financial requirements have doubled.
