Footage of the detention of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan has emerged

Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan was detained in the Armenian city of Gyumri. Footage from the scene of the October 20 events is published by Izvestia.

"Law enforcement officers entered the City Hall early in the morning. Masked riot police blocked the entrance and exit of the employees. The townspeople gathered in front of the city Hall, where a large number of police officers are stationed. The situation is tense. At some point, a fight broke out between the police officers and the assembled citizens. There is also tension inside the city Hall," correspondent Garik Abelian notes.

It is specified that the mayor of Gyumri, Vardan Ghukasyan, is isolated in the city hall building, the entrance to which is guarded by armed policemen. Administration staff are trying to get inside to prevent his detention. A police convoy was sent from Yerevan to the city for reinforcement.

Earlier in the day, Gyumri residents gathered outside the city administration building, where investigations are currently underway into the detention of Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan. Some are trying to enter the building. As previously reported, all entrances to the building are closed by security forces, even journalists are not allowed in.

In the city hall itself, there were clashes between employees and law enforcement officers. A lot of ordinary people gathered on the street near the administrative building. The entrances to the city hall were cordoned off by law enforcement agencies. Later it became known that the police began to use force against those gathered outside the city Hall. Ghukasyan is currently in the building and is ready to follow the police, but supporters of the official gathered outside the building do not let him through.
